K.V. Anand on how he sees his movies turning into reality!

In a second locust attack since 2019 last year in India, the city of Jaipur was swarmed by a large number of the migratory insects that were travelling from Western Rajasthan on Monday. Since locust attacks are rare in our country, the incident was immediately related to the Tamil movie Kaappaan, where director K.V. Anand had probably for the first time accustomed such an attack to the general public.

With the meme community spreading the word that was known to Tamil movie buffs all over the country, the director himself has now commented on the incident. "I am getting so many calls and messages appreciating me for making a film on locust attacks. But I feel bad. I can't really be happy about it. Locust invasion can cause massive destruction to the country, and we have to take all possible measures to stop them from multiplying", the director was reported as saying.

He further revealed how he got the idea to portray a locust attack, something that has never happened in Tamil Nadu, in his movie. "I visited Madagascar nine years ago for the pre-production work on Suriya's Maattrraan..While I was travelling in a car..I saw thousands of locusts approaching us..we had to stop for hours for it to get cleared. That's when I inquired about them to a local resident there and gathered a lot of details. Later, I incorporated the idea in my film Kaappaan."

Since this isn't the first time one of K.V. Anand's plots has turned into reality, the director also added that most of his ideas are actually inspired from incidents he reads in the newspaper or magazine reports. "Be it the desalination concept in Kana Kandaen, smuggling network in Ayan, conjoined twins in Maattraan... they have all been inspired from real incidents, said the director. His movies and plot-lines that have turned into real-life incidents are listed below:

  1. Kaappaan - Gujarat Locust Attack (2019), Jaipur Locust Attack (2020)
  2. Kaappaan - Declaration of Cauvery Delta Zone as protected agricultural land
  3. Ayan Smuggling under wig
  4. Maatraan - Gene Edited Twins
  5. Maatraan - Doping Scandal in Russian Sports
