August 14 is shaping up to be one of Tamil cinema's most competitive release weekends of the year, with three films heading to theatres simultaneously, Vishal's Magudam, Suriya's Vishwanath & Sons and Kavin-Nayanthara's Hi.

Magudam, which marks Vishal's directorial debut, follows a calm father who is forced to embrace his violent past to protect his son from dangerous gangsters. The film stars Vishal alongside Dushara Vijayan and Anjali.

Vishwanath & Sons, directed by Venky Atluri, tells the story of Sanjay Vishwanath — a 40-year-old veteran pistol shooter attempting a career comeback — whose ambitions clash with family obligations and an unexpected age-gap romance. Suriya leads the film with Mamitha Baiju and Raveena Tandon.

Hi, directed by Vishnu Edavan, brings together Nayanthara and Kavin as two people with opposing views on love, thrown into an unforeseen circumstance that forces them to discover what love truly means.
