In an official statement released by Maanaadu producer Suresh Kamatchi, it has been confirmed that the proposed collaboration between Simbu and Venkat Prabhu has been dropped and that the project will be revived with a new face soon. More than a year since Maanaadu was first announced, Suresh Kamatchi said of the project,

"I have a very very unfortunate decision to share with you all. My dear brother Simbu had given me a huge responsibility. Firstly I would like to thank my friend Simbu for initiating and supporting me to produce Maanaadu with him. However, with passing time I do not want it to turn into a bitter experience...

No matter how much I tried, the only thing that happened was wastage of time and I couldn't begin the film...That is why dropping "Maanaadu with Simbu" could not be avoided..The Maanaadu which Venkat Prabhu was supposed to direct will begin with a new dimension..Very soon we will make an official announcement about it.."

Maanaadu was also supposed to star Kalyani Priyadarshan and Jai per earlier reports. Whether or not they will continue with the project is something only time can tell.
