Jailer producer Kalanithi Maran speaks highly of Rajinikanth at audio launch event

The Jailer audio launch event that took place at Nehru Indoor Stadium Chennai, saw the attendance of Jailer cast and crew in full, and among the highlights from the evening was Sun Pictures producer Kalanithi Maran's speech. 

 

 

The Sun Network group ventured into TV production and film distribution under the name Sun Pictures, and it was only in the year 2010 that they ventured into direct film production. Their first film was Shankar directed Enthiran starring Rajinikanth in the lead, and the movie set the benchmark for science fiction films in India. Sun Pictures did two more films with Rajinikanth - Petta (2019) and Annaatthe (2021), one of which did well and the other didn't as much. 

 

Jailer is Sun Pictures' 4th film with Rajinikanth, and despite the ups and downs in the outcomes of their collaboration, Kalanithi Maran seems to hold a high regard for the personality i.e. Rajinikanth. At the Jailer audio launch, the producer spoke highly of the 72 year old star actor and said,

 

"Before me, my grandfather Kalaignar (the late DMK honcho and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi) was a fan of Rajinikanth. Now, I enjoy him as a fan. The generation after me i.e. my daughter will next love him. As the lyricist Super Subbu said (in Hukum - Thalaivar Alappara song) not just the fathers but over 5 generations have been his (Rajini's) fans. Rajini sir is a record maker not a breaker. Rajini is his own competition. There is no one else.

 

Rajini Sir is now 72 years old.  Still producers are lining up (to do a movie with him). If producers line-up in a similar manner for you as well, then you too say 'I am the next Superstar'. Till then as far as Indian film industry is concerned, Rajiinikanth is the only Superstar. That is the truth."

 

Adding to how Jailer came about, Kalanithi Maran revealed, "To tell you the truth, I haven't seen Jailer yet. But everyone who saw the film said it was great. It was Rajini sir who first heard about the story of this film. I asked him how the story was. He replied, 'The story is great... I have faith in Nelson.' The last time he told me this was for Enthiran".

 

Jailer releases in theaters worldwide on August 10, 2023. The U/A censored movie is an action comedy thriller, and comes with a runtime of 168.59 minutes i.e. 2 hours 48 minutes 59 seconds.
