Director Lokesh Kanagaraj in a recent interview has revealed that Karthi's ambiguous character details in Kaithi (2019) include that he was a Kabbadi player while in jail and the medals and cups from his many wins during his jail time is in the shopping bag he always carries around in the movie.

Karthi played an ex-convict named Dilli in Kaithi and while the film was initially written as a standalone with a sequel, Lokesh Kanagaraj took characters from the movie and formed the recent Kamal Haasan starrer Vikram and what is now being referred to as the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU).

Lokesh has also said that only characters from Kaithi and Vikram (2022) are part of this LCU and going forward, movies with crossover stories including Kaithi 2 will carry an LCU tag to notify viewers of the connection.
