Thalaivaa losses could add up to 40 Crores

If Thalaivaa fails to release on August 15th in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry, the box office revenue losses are estimated to be at around staggering Rs. 40 Crores. The problems are getting compounded on a day-to-day basis due to multiple factors.

No Minimum Guarantee - During an emergency meeting convened by Tamil Nadu Theatre owners, the trade members had withdrawn the minimum guarantee for the movie and has updated the contract to profit sharing basis model.

Rampant Piracy - Due to the indefinite delay of Thalaivaa release in Tamil Nadu, pirated DVDs, online torrent and illegal downloads of the film are available. The number of views and download counts prove that many of the fans are unable to keep their resolve of not watching the piracy prints.

August 15 Release is Uncertain  - As of now, there is no indication from the theatres nor the producers regarding the release of Thalaivaa on Independence day long weekend on August 15th. Many of the smaller movies which had postponed their release due to Thalaivaa are now starting to block the screens for upcoming weeks.

If this uncertain situation continues, it is disappointing that the revenue losses that Vijay's Thalaivaa is estimated to register will be unprecedented in the history of Tamil Cinema.
