MovieCrow Box Office Report – November 10 to 15
In spite of heavy rains across various parts of Chennai for past 1 week, it was raining money at the box office, thanks to the release of Ajith’s Vedalam and Kamal Haasan’s Thoongavanam. Check out how these movies fared at the box office during the 6-day long Diwali weekend.
In spite of the mixed reviews, Ajith’s Vedalam took a blockbuster opening as it grossed Rs 15.5 crore from Tamil Nadu alone on day 1. The figure dropped to Rs 9.5 crore on day 2. The incessant rains did play spoilsport over the next 4 days, but the movie has comfortably taken Rs 50 crore worldwide opening.
Although Kamal Haasan’s Thoongavanam received better reviews, the movie was overpowered by Ajith’s humongous fan base, particularly across single screens. The first day collection in Tamil Nadu was just around 25% of that of Vedalam, which came as a huge surprise to the trade.
Super hit Naanum Rowdy Dhaan lost majority of its screens to the biggies, while Jayam Ravi’s Thani Oruvan was still holding on to a few screens in the city in its 12th weekend.
Upcoming week’s releases
Editor Anthony’s directorial debut film, Oru Naal Iravil will be hitting the screens on November 20.
