1'st half ok, 2'nd half worst , i dont know why vijay copies Rajini, he has a good style, if he does it in his way its good to watch, come on vijay come up with good acting, I dont know whether it is Atlee Direction or Vijay Domination, I Hope Atlee will gain well, only Nainika acting is good, Two legends Radhika & Mahendran haven't used properly thats a big minus in the movie, not worth to watch for non-vijay fans, worth for Vijay fans thats all. Loved it from the beginning; the songs, actions, fight scenes, love scenes and acting by the lead roles were therific-ahh the emotional scenes played by vijay, samantha, radhika and even nainika!! However, the only limitation is how Vijay doesn't seem to showcase the loss of Mithra in the second half it seem Samantha had been forgotten in the 2nd half. This maybe not his fault but maybe the script and how despite she told to be a policeman, he still joins at the end which quite seems he is going against her wish. But maybe Atlee wanted a "Therific, Vijayish" ending and so might have done so. Other than that, Theri is the best Vijay, no, best Tamil film I have watched and there is so far!!! Congrats to the team!! (more)

Theri A very well executed cop movie with all commercial elements along with good social messages...First half elevates the film to a new high with terrific preinterval scenes.... Second half also has a good share of nice moments with terrific fight scenes,emotional ones..seems to be some disconnect in few scenes...may be to cut the length of film.. Negatives/Average Feeling Not a super introduction and Movie first 20 mins is boring. Then start First Fight - Not better than Singam fight in rain. Policemen intro(school) is nothing compared to many similar recent movies. Copy but not better. jithu jilladi - is this best intro song? -Graphics ? not even match kadhalan Touching Child labor - But not much in to social issues and just for a fight. (We will even forget this, once the movie is complete. luckily I had noted it down ) At 30 mins, we even forget where movie started and kerala scenes. Fight in city is good. But not new and movie slowly picks up Samantha.too much in her introduction. Aandava... mudiyala. - Oru marana break. Nothing emotional for audience here. Valaikappu Scenes .. dragging a bit Even after 1 hour movie feel is movie not started. Mahendran Sir- excellent only in scenes before interval. Fight in restaurant is average.Post this movie started dragging and lost the plot completely and boring other than the 5* scene. Already saw the same dialogues and conversations in all Police Movie with heroine (2nd half, after fight). Its predictable scene by scene after this. Nothing new even in screenplay or scenes. Bad. Villain is very smart but called Vijay when the school bus starts. Usually such villain will call only after killing daugther(This is called killing a Character by the Director) . Director Killed villain characterisation post interval. Movie lost the plot... Padam fulla vijay introductiona vacha eppa story solluvinga feeling comes in Songs and Dance- Oh, is this what comapred to Shakars movie?- Certainly not. Movie should be engaging and should not remind us of other movies even if copied. Editing of Movie is very bad. Positive Radhika-Vijay excellent. Their chemistry is awesome. Rajendran Super -Scoring again and again in all scenes. Bus scene- Similar to Gajini. But, Vijay + Samanth good dialogues but doesnt last for even 30 sec. Vijay certain places overacting. Love scenes are above average. But Characterisation is not sticking. Radhika - Samantha excellent. (For this one scene people won't hate the movie) Nirbhaya/ similar incident happened in TN...Highly emotionl and excellent - everyone scores. Excellent acting by Vijay in Hospital scene. because of this no one can hate.and wow.. thats great scene ..on going to see bridge.. That's a Mass before interval. So for the last 15 minsbefore interval movie is good. Which made some reviews to post first half good Post interval again flashback, Vijay did well here only for few min. Vijay acting is better, in the sequnece when samantha dies... Emotional and many will cry.... GV Prakash BGM is superb. If this is not good then movie would have been rated very low. (more)

#Theri #Theri seems to be a desperate attempt in making a Hit movie rather than a good movie,Director Atlee just like his previous "Raja Rani" takes an old story and tries to "Update" it as suitable for current audience.it was "Mouna Ragam" for "Raja Rani" and now it is "Chatriyan" for "Theri". but he fails in screenplay department where he fairly succeeded in "Raja Rani". Movie starts on a breezy note showing the beautiful relationship between a single father and his daughter, Theri Baby nainika takes total control of these scenes with her cuteness, kudos to Vijay for allowing this.Vijay also underplays well as a caring father Joseph Kuruvilla .though we know that the silent hero will have a violent flashback and explode at a stage ,and that moment comes very soon with an uninspiring transformation scene. the flashback scenes are actually a collage of tamil movies in the past 20 years,we can play a "guess the movie" game for which scene is lifted from which movie.and songs play a spoil sport wiht one song after another continously shows up and slows the movie which is already limping. and when we start thinking that this is a dead rubber,there comes sparking pre interval scenes of around fifteen minutes, those scenes are the major highlights and pakka mass scenes. Post interval the movie misses to capitalise the momentum and travels again in a very familiar route,and the last half an hour about Vijay's Comeback as "ghost" are funnny to say the least, even the much expected mahendran doesnt create any impact so does the heroines samantha and Amy. #Theri looks rich thanks to the production values and colorful photography by George C.Williams , Editing is sloppy with some portions moving in a sloth pace and some scenes rushed up in urgency.GVP shines only with his bgm for action sequences. you have to seriously appreciate Vijay for giving his best for this film, he lightens up the poor screenplay with his screen presence and turns to be the saviour.he is super fit and smart as Deputy Commisioner Vijay Kumar.only Nainika and Vijay makes this movie watchable. The Real problem of Theri is over hyped Atlee, he seems to have indulged much in the success of his previous movie and taken this Golden oppurtunity to direct Vijay very lightly. Keep your expectations very low and watch #Theri Vijay and nainika will give you some moments to enjoy. Rating : 2.5/5 (more)

Nice action packed with interesting screenplay by Atlee. The Combo of Vijay and Atlee is really interesting and we can expect more in future. The film is strongly coming out for the women security and creating awareness for the public that how we have to save women in this world. Each and every stunt is interesting and neatly presented. Well, not everyone will believe a review of a die hard fan for his fav actor movie..So choice is yours ;-) ;-) The movie progresses with a colorful, racy & an awesome first half, goosebumps interval block..!!! The second part of 2nd half is little predictable.. Thalapathy performance in sentiment and love scenes new level _/\_ _/\_ Beautiful, pleasant chemistry between Vj & Sammu, Vj &Nainika :-) :-) Top notch camera work..!!! What vijay's mass fans want and what critics want seldom intersect but with films like thuppaki and kaththi, he managed to woo both sides of viewers effectively.Yet with Their, he manages to fall short of hitting the mark. As a film, Their has been solely designed for Vijay fans alone. There is an abundance of heroism, action, comedy and romance In this potboiler. But where it falls short is in the storyline and screenplay. Such a story has been seen aplenty in Tamil films. Atlee, despite his astute directional skills, seems to have written the story with as little research as possible because there isn't any needed. It is a revenge drama that is as simple as it can get. And screenplay wise, it falls flat with uneven sequences throughout the first half.The second half is a notch above the first. The positives are Vijay,Samantha and mahendran. How much more handsome can Vijay get, we can not know. He is over 40 and is super fit and apt in his role. Surprisingly, this being a masala film, Samantha has a meaty role in this film. Mahendran is also quite good in his role. Though he could have been better, he still manages to bring out the calm in the storm. On the whole, the film is clearly catering only towards vijay's fans and doesn't quite reach the mark as other films from Vijay like thuppaki and kaththi. (more)

Theri One of the most awaited movies of the year has finally hit the screens:) After Puli, Vijay has strongly bounced back with Theri. Theri revolves around a cop, and a bad politician. What made them enemies? What all they both had to miss because of their hostility? Who is a good father? Who is a bad father? Well, Theri holds answers to all these. Vijay has made for a complete family person, a caring son, a romantic husband, an awesome dad, a cool in-law. Any relationship, you name it, he does it with ease. Vijay's Joseph Kuruvilla character gave fans nostalgic memories of their idol, when he was at his younger age. Its sure a delight for everyone to watch Vijay like that. Theri is Vijay's best cop movie till date. Legendary director Mahendran has played the baddie in the movie. His attitude, dialogue delivery, mannerisms is in the lines of a slightly depreciated Siddharth Abhimanyu. The depreciation was very much needed because of his age and the role he acts in the film. Theri is Samanthas best till date. Her performance in Theri was a stellar one. Samantha excelled in her looks and performance as well. Motta Rajendran travels throughout the movie alongside Vijay. He couldnt have asked for any better role than this. He hits at all quarters as a performer, not merely as a comic. Amy Jackson plays a Malayali and her hair makeover well suited it. Though she didn't receive much screen space to deal with, her performance was quite honest. Baby Nainika is the second best show stealer after Vijay. She hits with her expressions and voice, though some Nainika scenes looked like it she had some lip sync issues. Vijay scores in every frame, be it sentiment or comedy or action, he has proved himself an all-round performer. En Jeevans visuals are blissful, while Jithu Jilladi and Chella Kutty will make fans go on floors. Atlee, kudos to him for making a movie like Theri. Only one film old, handles emotions with ease. Demise of Samantha will leave you in spills. Atlee couldnt have thought of anyone other than Vijay for the lead role. Special mention to Atlee and his team for well scripting the dialogues. GV Prakash's background score is brilliant. It appends to the mass and emotional factor and elevates the picture on screen. Yet another brilliant work by cameraman George C Williams. Antony L Rubens cuts are sharp and as crisp as the title. Theri's story was predictable to some extent and the trailer must take the full blame for it. After a rapid fire first half, the initial portions of the second half may seem a bit slow, but that's where Atlee nailed the emotion factor deep. Theri Its everyone's cup of tea. Theri was an Extraordinary Theriffic Entertainer from Atlee and Ilayathalapathy Vijay!!!! Vijay is the biggest positive for this movie!!! He has rocked a fantastic performance as a Loving Father, a Mass Police and a Romantic Hero!!!!! Baby Nainika steals the show with a cute and kiddish performance!!!!! Samantha has made a lovable performance like Nayanthara from Raja Rani!!!! Her acting was brilliant!!!! Amy Jackson has done her role as good as she can...... Director Mahendran has prooved his debut as a bad ass Villain!!!! The rest of the cast like Motta Rajendran, Prabhu, Radhika, etc have given their best and speaks special dialogues each!!!! This movie is already said to be inspired from Sathriyan and Atlee has executed it perfectly!!!! Atlee proves that he can make any movie with strong action, love, sentiments and emotions and this movie overflows with mass scenes and emotional social messages stealing every hearts!!!! G.V. Prakash has already rocked his 50th album with terrific songs and now rocked more with BGM score supporting every scene perfectly!!!! Special applauses to Camera work done by George C Williams who has presented the movie with rich and colourful cinematography, Stunt director Dillip Subburayan for his perfect and logical action Sequences and stunts and last but not the least editor Ruben for his perfect cuts in editing as the first half is very racy anf second half filled with mass and emotions!!!! Atlee has taken a simple clichd cop subject but presented it with fantastic screenplay, action and emotional social messages that touched our hearts deeply!!!! The interval block is the highlight of the movie!!!! At last what Atlee said to the audience was a great message on parenting and women safety!!!!! If we raise our children properly our nation would automatically improve!!!! Thats what Atlee says!!!! He indeed prooves to be an assistant of Shankar!!!! Every audience in the theatre loved it and I loved the movie a lot!!!! My kind request to all those reading my review is please don't listen to MC review and buy ure Theri tickets as soon as possible!!!!!! The critics have definitely gone crazy!!!! #THERI - (FAN)TASTICALLY T(H)ERRIFIC !!! ;) :p *** NO SPOILERS *** Yes it is terrific for Thalapathy Fans!! So the next question , "How is it for the others???" To find that out , read below!! :) Story : Very very very very olddddddddd usual story!!!! One can guess the story from its trailer itself and yes it was the same in the movie as well. Nothing more to say on it. There are several talks that this story reminds vijayakanth's Sathriyan. I dont know about it as I havent watched it. May be it is true, Atlee Kumar could have concentrated more on that! Music : G.V.Prakash Kumar 's 50th movie, Songs were good but weren't great for his 50th movie but the BGM was pukka throughout the movie. 'Theri dub step' thrills you in places which adds up to the scene as an energy boost. Cinematography : George C. Williams I mentioned this guy in my previous Naanum Rowdy Dhaan review that I was becoming a fan of him. From this movie, I am his fan and it was super cool to watch all these scenes through his vision. Stunts : Thank god , there was no air stunts like one will be flying in the air, either the hero or the goons who were punched by the hero. Dilip subburayan had given powerful stunts. Casting and performances: Like Raja Rani , this movie also had a perfect casting. Radhika and Prabhu, though they appear for minor roles, they were perfect in it. First time Motta rajendran had been roped in for an important role and he did justice with a slight flavor of his usual comedy. The Legendary Director Mahendran was the antagonist and was normal. Anyone could have done the role. The Lady leads, Samantha Ruth Prabhu looked awful with her overdose make up that sometimes would confuse you whether she actually a human or a plastic doll. Performance wise she was good and not great but the chemistry between vijay and her worked out. Amy Jackson looked awful too with her WIG MANDA lol :D . Her role was a KERALA teacher but I wonder why atlee made her to look like a KOREA teacher :P. Baby Nainika was such a cute doll and she nailed it as the dialogues were uber cool . It was a treat to watch all the scenes which she involved and the father daughter relation was perfect! So , the man of masses and screen presence ILAYATHALAPATHY Actor Vijay at one of his finest performances . This movie would have been utter crap without this guy's awesome screen presence and charisma! Vijay's performance is matured and was a perfect fit cop with no unwanted punch dialogues. One can witness the old 90's romantic vijay in parts of the movie and the recent mass vijay in other parts. Direction and Screenplay: Hard work never fails! , Atlee Kumar 's hard work can be seen throughout the movie. He took up a very simple story and refurbished with perfect cast and a mighty lead. The way he handled emotions and songs are perfect could have concentrated more on the second half's romantic scenes which slows down the movie a bit. Interestingly he included the latest social issues in the story. He studied vijay completely and utilized him in the best possible way . All the mass, emotional, romantic scenes were class but with a limit. There wasn't too much mass or masala or punch dialogues ( like vaaaaa daaaa deeiii!!! camera zooms in and out , top to bottom and all ) , or too much emotions or sentiments like serials or vikraman movies . It was a perfect blend of the things mentioned above and with Vijay in it, then its a runaway hit!!. As mentioned initially, vijay fans will celebrate while for others, its perfect decent family entertainer for summer with no double meaning dialogues, no glamour in songs etc. P.S : Some ardent fans will say its better than Kaththi , dont believe them ( adichu sonnalum nambadhinga :P :D ) !!! Better Analyzed & Detailed (BAD) Review-> Reviewed by Badrinath. Overview:- A leading actor who is larger than life for many of his diehard fans needs to do 4 basic things to give a Quality film. Choose a decent script, Select a Quality and Promising director, choose a valuable technical team and after all these things give your 100% dedication for the film. THERI is such a film where a Mass Actor of huge fan following has done all these 4 things in a perfect way. Then it is in the hands of the director to make it as a Quality product. Has Atlee really succeeded in this? A drastic change from Vijay:- One must give a round of applause for Vijay for his change of attitude right from Kaavalan in 2011. We all know the old Vijay, who is a poor chooser of script and director. But from Kaavalan he looks matured in so many ways. He wishes to give chance to young talents and make a quality film and it is completely evident in his ongoing career. It is to be noted that the technical team of THERI including the director, editor, cinematographer, stunt director and music director has an average age of 28. That is a thing to be appreciated for a leading star. Big thanks to Vijay for that. Performances:- Vijay as Vijay Kumar/Joseph kuruvila has given his 100% for THERI as a Tough Cop, Lovable Son, Caring Husband and a Responsible Father. Undoubtably, he steals the show in the film. His commitment to satisfy his fans and directors needs is complete. Be it the risky jump from the bridge, comedy sequences, fight scenes and romance, Vijay is at his best. Vijays commitment is really evident in chellakutty song where he comes as a Dwarf which could be trolled heavily in social media if it fails. But as per the directors wish, he has accepted it. There are some self-trolling scenes too. He is so stylish, young, fit and energetic throughout the film. There is only one scene in 2nd half where Vijays dialogue delivery looked bad and that is the only negative thing from Vijay. A notable performance from Vijay. Apart from Vijay, Mahendran sir has given a decent debut as Villain in his short role. His body language reminds us of Superstar Rajnikanth in most of his scenes. Motta Rajendran, Cute Baby Nainika, Radhika, Samantha have given decent performances. Amy Jackson, Prabhu and Anbu chezhiyan are really wasted. Where the film lost its way? Director has lost his way as he has taken so many issues to convey through the film. Delhi rape incident, TCS incident and Child beggars issue (Reminds us of Ram charans yevadu) are dealt in a decent way but those scenes should have added more value to the film. The importance of a Father in a Childs future is conveyed in a satisfying level but I felt it as a forced one. Vijay - Sam love portion is a time and tested one. Nothing is new in the love portions. The scene where Vijays family is killed will raise the eyebrows of many. Atlees writing is not as good as it is expected. Most of the scenes are predictable as the story line is not a new one. But he should be appreciated a lot for his ability to handle such a team at this early stage of his career. He scores big in his attempt to satisfy Vijay fans... GVs background score is really good. It gives added pace for the Mass scenes of Vijay where the fans will go berserk. But the bgm in the Revenge and sad sequences reminds us of Kaththi Yaar petra magano song. The songs looks grandeur in making but Vijay hasnt provided enough scope for Dance except in Chellakutty. A Dancer like Vijay needs even better Choreography. Songs lack the punch visually. Overall the film is a decent entertainer for Family audience and Vijay fans. But a Vijay haters patience will be tested in some overhyped scenes like Vijay fans felt while watching Vedhalam. Verdict:- Watch it for Vijays Committed Performance, the number of social messages film has conveyed, grandeur visuals, Atlee's attempt for an action film. Theri will worth your money and keep you entertained for 2.38hrs. A "FAN"tastic film which will make Vijay fans to go GAGA. Critic Rating:- 2.75/5. Fan rating:- 3.25/5. Neutral Rating:- 2.75/5. Theri : Vijay made it theriffic Film start with two theri babies Vijay and nainika in kerala,DOP George showed his skills and he also shows what he is capable of.Stunt master dilip nailed all the action scenes ,GVP made justification to his role with BGM but failed at some times,Samantha role is a next door girl she performed well in love scenes,Amy Jackson comes and goes like a flash,Atlee it is hard to believe u are directing your second one.The theatre roars for othasollala dance by Vijay and the dialogue of "Vijay kumar " with mahendran sir,Director Mahendran is awesome for this villain character with ease,Radhika sarathkumar will remind us our mom. A very old plot,a very good screenplay . Atlee should have tried some other script worth more for a super hero like Vijay, although he manages to Justify his direction .Rajendran gives us laughter service with Vijay combo. If u wanna ask where does Theri stands,it stands some where with Thalaiva in story and Thupakki in screenplay. Theri won't let u down at any moment,Vijay ,Atlee and co make your money worth. Theri - Partially There are few rare films were our intellectual mind says that there is a logic issue, it has dejavu connections, it has predictable/Template zone problem, but heart says, no problem ! the movie is still good right?.. this happens only when you get entertained in right mixture. Where it misses: The major problem that everyone would say with theri is the predictability, you can easily say what gonna happen in the next scene, when the song will come. Then comes dejavu, a couple of scenes remind you of Ghajini, some scenes reminds you of Vedalam. Additionally Atlee wanted to cover a number of social issues through one film. Few emotional connects which actually works well, sometimes looks like an overdose. The entire first half portions are really good, when everything seems to go fine, Atlee suddenly looks like misses the point, he clearly has no idea on how to end and made it hurry to end the film like bang bang and messed it up. Theri Moments: Vijay the perfect entertainer, his screen presence and charisma over-shades the issues that Theri had. Rest of the cast have done the best of what they can. The entire first half is really good. GV Prakash's Background score is a huge asset, whenever there is a lag GV comes to fill it with his score. Finally: With too many issues the movie still works as an Entertainer. The movie can recommended even for family audiences as it has no adultery-dialogues/ or "Mugam sulikum" scenes. If you want a good entertainer to spend your weekend 'Theri' is still a good choice. (more)

HERE THE "THERI" REVIEW FROM MY SIDE AND GENUINE VERDICT: First thing big kudos to Dir.Atlee to bring back Thalapathy in to Commercial Formula from Disaster "Puli" Film Failure.. Vijay Badly needs an must HIT for Trade. Almost Dir.Atlee has done it. Story-wise: Nothing much to say n not new concept too. Just an simply story. as many says might b old wine in new bottle but screen presence is important for New Bottle Guys. First Half : Film begin's with Top BGM by G.V.P and Calm Intro by Vijay and Baby Nainika. Pillar of the film can say easily is Vijay .. Amy as somewhat okish performance after her mokka gethu film. Highlight scenes are school scene,Interval block Theriii Level. Second Half: Story fully turned in to commercial revenge formula and regular villain n hero trap n killing concept. It done neat by all the lead actors.Highlight Scenes are Vijay Re-entry in to police station fight,Bridge Jump as caring father to save her child,some punch dialogues too for pucca commercial element's. Acting wise Thalapathy Vijay's show all the way n his acting,dialogue delivery,punch words,dance pucca and in rom asual was cool. Samantha was sooo cute n done beautiful role. Baby Nainika wat an cute girl with each n every dialogue delivery n her expressions n lip-sync all were amazing. Songs by G.V.P are better but B.G.M was marana massss .. As i mentioned in songs review Eeina Menna Teeka,En Jeevan and Jithu Jilladi songs are visually THERIIII ... Theri is best film one of the best film of Vijay and it is Vijay give the show stealing performances apart from the actor looks cute throughout in the movie. Samantha and Amy did justice to their roles and the Atlee's direction was up to the nark indeed. (more)
