MovieCrow Box Office Report - December 25 to 28
There were 4 prominent films that released last weekend to cash in on the long Christmas weekend. While Meaghamann, Kayal and Kappal opened to fair/positive reviews, Vikram Prabhu's Vellaikara Durai faced criticisms for its outdated treatment. Check out the box office ranking of Tamil movies in Chennai during last weekend.
1. Meaghamann
Director Magizh Thirumeni was back with another interesting film, that stood out in certain aspects. The bigger screens in the multiplexes were allotted to Meaghmann, and Arya has been getting good comments for his image makeover.
Although Vellaiakara Durai majorly received negative reviews, the movie took a good opening, as it was the first priority for the family audience. Vikram Prabhu, who has been so far choosing unique scripts, has missed the mark this time.
3. Kayal
Prabhu Solomon's Kayal was touted as a tribute to the victims of Tsunami attack, which occurred a decade ago. The novel screenplay and excellent performances by the lead stars are the positive aspects of the film.
Other Films
Lingaa's show count was reduced considerably, while Mysskin's Pisasu was still going strong with the support of film buffs, in spite of many new releases. Kappal took a humble opening, due to lesser number of screens.
Upcoming week's releases
There is no film slated for release this weekend, as the biggies like I, Yennai Arindhaal and Kakki Sattai are lined up for release during Pongal holidays.
