Promises More Than What It Achieves

Magizh Thirumenis first two films bore his unique stamp and were quite different from each other. His latest offering Meaghamann is more inclined towards his previous film Thadayara Thaakka, a riveting actioner that caught the attention of film buffs.(more)

Undercover cop thriller is an evergreen genre across the globe. Be it Martin Scorcseses The Departed, Kamals Kuruthipunal or Puri Jaganaths Pokkiri, the raw gritty setup has always been welcomed by both critics and masses. Magizh Thirumeni's Meaghamann also belongs to the same genre.(more)

The mission of an undercover agent!

The last time Thadiyaara Thakka came out, there wasnt much speculation or hype, but it did slowly exceed everyones expectation and put forth a turning aspect in action thrillers. Hands down the credit went to Magizh, and with Meaghamann he has taken up a storyline that beehives around an undercover agent, his desperation to catch a drug dealer. Unearthing undercover cops and the mystery around them has always been Kollywoods pet project from the days of Jai Shankar, Magizh has grabbed his chance to show Arya in a different light altogether, breaking free from the lover boy image. So whats up with the captain of the ship, lets find out:(more)

An undercover cop is involved in an operation to make a most wanted gangster come out of hiding. Can he succeed amidst suspicion, betrayal and loss?

Even though there is a lot of action in it, Meaghamann, is a battle of wits a game of chess to be precise. Magilzh Thirumeni keeps reminding us this every now and then with visual nudges a character is shown playing chess on the laptop, a character who is used by the hero is shown wearing a T-shirt that says 'I'm a pawn star', and the painting on the pier where the climax takes place is that of the white king you find on the chess board with the words King's Gambit below it. A pretty decent action-adventure

A young drug cartel employee named Siva is shown to be a bad shot such a bad shot that he misses even the outermost circle of the target board in front of him. (The bullet pathetically pierces the surrounding wooden frame instead.) A little later, Siva is shown to be having an affair with a cops wife. Someone trails him and sees him loitering outside the cops house, and after the cop leaves, he looks around furtively and goes past the doors the wife holds open for him. We dont believe a minute of it. We dont believe that Siva is a drug cartel employee. We dont believe that hes a bad shot. And we dont believe that he is having an affair.(more)
