MovieCrow Box Office Report – April 18 to 20

Last weekend was a very important one for Tamil film industry, as Vadivelu made his comeback after more than 2 years with his latest offering Tenali Raman. Also, Vaibhav’s Damaal Dumeel had hit the screens and the movie received decent reviews. Check out the box office rankings of Tamil movies in Chennai during last weekend (April 18-20).

1.Tenali Raman

Although the movie opened to mixed reviews, the unanimous verdict was ‘Watch it for Vadivelu’, which was good enough for the fans of Vadivelu and family audience to watch the film. Vadivelu shines in this film in dual roles, as a result of which, the movie has taken a good opening.

2. Naan Sigappu Manithan

Vishal’s Naan Sigappu Manithan has continued its decent run at the box office for a second consecutive week, thanks to Thiru’s riveting screenplay and Vishal’s brilliant performance as a Narcoleptic patient. In spite of the fact that the movie lost few screens due to arrival of Tenali Raman, the movie has managed to hold on to major multiplex screens.

3.Maan Karate

The collections of Maan Karate have started dropping down slowly due to reduced show counts after the arrival of new movies. Three weeks after its release, the movie still has managed to pull in family audience, thanks to Sivakarthikeyan.

4.Damaal Dumeel

Damaal Dumeel has taken only an average opening in spite of good word of mouth. The major reasons behind this are lack of pre-release buzz, due to low key promotions, and Vaibhav lacking crowd-pulling capacity.

Other movies

Movies like Oru Kanniyum Moonu Kalavanigalum and Cuckoo have almost vanished, expect from very few screens. Also, Vijay's Jilla celebrated its single show 100 day run at couple of theaters .

Upcoming week’s releases

Director Balaji Mohan’s Vaayai Moodi Pesavum will be releasing with 2 other lesser known movies, namely Gautham Karthik's Yennamo Yedho and Ennamo Nadkudhu this weekend. It looks like one too many releases again!
