RJ Balaji has revealed that his upcoming film Karuppu was initially pitched to Vijay before Suriya came on board.  

 In a recent interview, the director-actor shared that he began writing the script in August 2023, and as the idea expanded, he felt the need for a major star. “When I narrated it to Vijay sir, he asked if it could be done immediately. He was also looking for a lighter, family entertainer in my style,” he said.

However, Balaji noted that he needed more time to develop the project, during which Vijay moved into politics. “Our discussions helped the script evolve in multiple ways,” he added.

He later approached Suriya with the same story, leading to the project taking shape in its current form. Karuppu is completed and scheduled to release on May 14,2026
