A celebratory commercial entertainer with solid fan moments
The story carries strong potential, and the fantasy angle adds a refreshing touch to the commercial setup. While the writing could have explored the concept with more depth and inventiveness, the film still manages to engage through its theatrical highs and crowd-pleasing moments. The commercial appeal leans heavily on references and fan-service elements, making it an enjoyable community-watch experience for audiences who embrace the theatre atmosphere. (more)

Suriya enters 'God Mode' in RJ Balaji's masala fanfare
I don't know if God could fight for justice. But Karuppu, even while being a shallow fanfare entertainer, could still instil hope and positivity. And perhaps that's the real victory of the film. And in its own twisted way, perhaps that is still worth every penny. Just God things.(more)

Suriya Sivakumar is in top form, but the film is not
Suriya is why this film works and why he is worth watching. He plays both the man and the deity without letting either feel like a costume change. While the courtroom scenes are patient and controlled, the fight sequences are loud and physical, making it exactly what the fans came for. And then there are the quieter in-between moments, where he carries the weight of the character without any help, and keeps you fixed to your seat. (more)

A nostalgic but uneven ride with Suriya at his best
Director RJ Balaji's Karuppu, starring Suriya, Trisha and himself, is a fantasy courtroom drama that exposes how corruption is deeply ingrained in the system. While the film taps into a familiar idea, it doesn't capitalise and use it to its full potential.(more)

Karuppu Movie Review: Karuppu shines in court mode, slips in God mode
As long as it sticks to "just court things", Karuppu works. But once it goes all out "just God things", the film swaps human emotion for divine spectacle, and emerges less powerful for it.(more)

Karuppu Review - Suriya's Aura Points Get Wasted in RJ Balaji's Clueless Fantasy
The issue with the movie lies in the second half. The challenge that was in front of God quickly fades away, and the screenplay becomes a series of events where God is flexing his powers. The Baby Kannan vs Saravanan game becomes a fan service package for Suriya's fans who may have enjoyed even his screamings in Kanguva.(more)

Karuppu Movie Review: Suriya on 'God Mode' in a film that settles for less
Apart from Suriya and Balaji, Indrans gets the lion's share of the film's runtime, and the veteran delivers a powerful performance as a person defeated by the system. Along with Anagha, Indrans holds the key to the film's emotional core, and when the eventuality occurs, Karuppu is truly elevated.(more)

'Karuppu' Movie Review: Suriya Perspires as RJ Balaji Aspires To Make His Shankar Film
GK Vishnu's wild reds give you a psychedelic feeling of having seen God up close, and this is only magnified by Sai Abhyankkar's ear-numbing score.(more)

Karuppu mini review: A package that's unnecessarily expensive
Karuppu is surely a daring attempt but could have been executed well. The technical aspects provide treat for well written scenes but become a passable affair in several scenes with mediocre writing. (more)

Karuppu movie review: Suriya and Trisha starrer has an entertaining first half but a predictable second, worth watching once
Suriya is the strongest pillar of the film and the actor carries several sequences with charisma and conviction even when the script falters. The film attempts to blend fantasy, courtroom drama, action and social commentary, but the execution feels uneven at times. (more)

Karuppu Review: Suriya's "Akhanda" With The Same Problem of Pathetic Script Writing
Karuppu works as a big-screen entertainer. The massy action blocks are engaging, and the classic "hero dominating the villain" moments deliver the expected whistles. Pop culture references like Leo, Jai Bhim, old film songs, and even a Singham-style entry towards the end, add to the commercial appeal.(more)

Karuppu (Veerabhadrudu) Movie Review
Right from the very first sequence, the director pulls us into getting connected with the father and daughter duo, their struggle and helplessness. The emotional drama in the first half is the major highlight of the film.(more)
