Kaithi 2: Lokesh Kanagaraj marks 5 years of Kaithi with the promise of a sequel soon

October 25, 2024 marks five years since director Lokesh Kanagaraj opened the portal to what he calls the 'Lokesh Cinematic Universe' aka the LCU in Tamil Cinema. Today marks 5 years since Kaithi released, which was the very first movie of this LCU. Karthi played an ex-prisoner named 'Dilli' in Kaithi (2019), actor Narain played 'Inspector Bejoy', actor George Maryan played 'Napoleon', a newly transferred constable from Tirunelveli.

Together they take down a drug mafia overnight in Kaithi. The response to this movie was such that Lokesh Kanagaraj expanded this universe by making 'Bejoy' go rogue, and join Kamal Haasan in the next LCU movie Vikram (2022), on a mission to bust the entire drug syndicate in the city. 'Napolean' meanwhile made a whistle-worthy appearance in the third LCU movie Leo (2023), fighting alongside actor Vijay in protecting his on-screen family.

Kaithi is a production venture of SR Prabhu's Dream Warrior Pictures, while Vikram and Leo were produced by Kamal Haasan and Seven Screen Studio respectively. Lokesh Kanagaraj at several occassions has pointed out the magnanimity of producer SR Prabhu in letting 'LCU' be possible with different production banners. Kaithi 2 will be the fourth film the Lokesh Cinematic Universe.

'Dilli' who had made a voice appearance in Vikram, will be returning soon with Kaithi 2. Kaithi had Sathyan Sooryan for cinematography, Philomin Raj for edits, action by Anbariv, and an acclaimed musical score by Sam CS. It is believed that the same technical team will be returning for Kaithi 2, which will once again be produced by Dream Warrior Pictures.
