The month of January, 2024 is closing soon as are the movies that will be releasing this month. The next Friday falls on February 2, 2024 and atleast four new Tamil movies are scheduled to hit theater screens that weekend. Considerable mid size films like Lal Salaam starring Rajinikanth in a special appearance, Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth in the lead, and Siren starring Jayam Ravi, Keerthy Suresh are also set to release next month. 

 

Here is a list of Tamil movies releasing in February, 2024 in their order of release dates:  

 

1. Vadakkupatti Ramasamy (Santhanam) - Release date: February 2, 2024

Vadakkupatti Ramasamy starring comic actor Santhanam in the lead is an upcoming comedy film written and directed by Karthik Yogi. Karthik Yogi has previously directed Santhanam in the filmmaker's debut movie Dikkiloona (2021), and has also been credited as one of the dialogue writers in Maanagaram (2017).  

 

A production venture of People Media Factory, Vadakkupatti Ramasamy raked up a storm when its trailer came with a dialogue that went, "Aren't you the Ramasamy who went around saying that there is no God?". To this Santhanam's character replies, "I am not that Ramasamy". This line was taken as an apparent reference to Tamil Nadu's famous social reformer Periyar, whose real name was EV Ramasamy and was a non-believer of God. Santhanam however denied any disrespect or shade.

 

Vadakkupatti Ramasamy is set in 1974 after Periyar had died (in 1973). A major theme of the movie which is set in rural Tamil Nadu is conjunctivitis, or pink eye that is also popularly known as 'Madras Eye' in Tamil Nadu.

2. Devil (Vidharth, Poorna)- Release Date: February 2, 2024

Devil is an upcoming horror drama thriller written and directed by Aathityaa whose debut film Pitha was under Mysskin's production. Hema (Poorna) and Arun (Thrigun) meet in a road accident and their bond grows over time. However, Hema is already married to Alex (Vidharth) who has an extra-marital affair with Sophia (Subhashree).

 

How the growing proximity between Hema and Arun affects Hema`s married life, and what happens next, forms the rest of Devil. A production venture of Maruthi Films and H Pictures, Devil has music, lyrics by Mysskin, cinematography by Karthik Muthukumar, edits by Elayaraja. S, art direction by Antony Maria Kerli, VFX by Artfx Studio, Costume design by Shaima Aslam and stunts by Ramkumar. 

Devil's runtime is expected to be 1 hour and 58 minutes i.e. 118 minutes. Sony Music holds the audio rights to this Tamil film. 

3. Chiclets 2K Kids - Release Date: February 2, 2024

Starring actors like Sathvik Varma (Baahubali: The Beginning), Jack Robinson (Valimai), Nayan, Karishma, Amrita Haider, and Manjeera, Chiclets 2K Kids is a teen drama that revolves around the generational gap between the parents of three studious girls who want a slice of teen-freedom, and their conservative parents.

 

An SSB Films productions, Chiclets 2K Kids has story, screenplay, dialogues and direction by M Muthu, and has Balamurali Balu for music. 

 

The technical crew of this film also includes Kolanchi Kumar for cinematography, Vijay Velukutty for edits, Raju for art, Magesh for stunts, Mohan Rajan and KU. Karthik for lyrics, and Dhastha for choreography. Aditya Music holds the audio rights to Chiclets 2K Kids. 

 

4. Marakkuma Nenjam -  Release Date: February 2, 2024

 

Marakkuma Nenjam is a coming-of-age school reunion drama, in which students from the 2008 batch of a convent school are forced to get back to their school in 2018, and spend 3 months to take the board exams followed by a court order.

 

The movie written and directed by Raako Yoagandran, stars VJ Rakshan (Vettaiyan),  Dheena, Malina in the lead alongside Prankster Rahul, Swetha Venugopal, Ashika Kader, Melvin Dennis, Muthazhagan, Natalie Lourds, Vishvath, Munishkanth, Akila, Arun Kurian, among others.

A production venture of Filia Entertainment and Kuviyam Mediaworks, Marakkuma Nenjam has been censored with a clean U and comes with a runtime of  2 hours and 17 minutes (137 minutes). 5. Lal Salaam (Rajinikanth, Vishnu Vishal, Vikranth) - Release date: February 9, 2024

One of the biggies releasing in February, 2024, Lal Salaam starring Rajinikanth in a special appearance is an Aishwarya Rajinikanth directorial, who has returned to filmmaking after 3 (2012), Vai Raja Vai (2015) and Cinema Veeran (2017 documentary). 

 

A cricket based sports drama starring Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth in the lead, Lal Salaam also stars Vignesh, Livingston, Senthil, Jeevitha as Moideen, K. S. Ravikumar, Thambi Ramaiah, Nirosha, Ananthika Sanilkumar, Vivek Prasanna, Dhanya Balakrishna, Thangadurai, Akash Sahani, Poster Nandakumar, Adithya Menon, Pondy Ravi and former cricketer Kapil Dev in cameo appearance. 

Lal Salaam titled after the South Asian communist chant, is themed around communal harmony and religious tolerance. Rajinikanth appears in a Muslim character named Moideen Bhai who calls out poisoning of young minds by an intolerant society. Aishwarya Rajinikanth has said that while the character was not written for Rajinikanth, the Superstar himself asked for the role.  Lal Salaam music composer AR Rahman has said that Rajinikanth has also tweaked some dialogues in the film. 

 

"I thought Lal Salaam would be a boring preachy film until I saw it. In places where it would have gotten preachy, it was filled with humanity. When I asked (director) Aishwarya who wrote these dialogues, she said she wrote it but Rajini(kanth) sir tweaked it. I wasn't surprised. He (Rajinikanth) is a man beyond religion." - A.R. 6. Lover / True Lover -  Release Date: February 9, 2024

K. Manikandan who made his debut as a lead actor with Good Night (2023), will next be seen in an angsty love drama titled Lover (True Lover in Telugu dubbed version). Co-starring Sri Gouri Priya in the lead, Lover Tamil film is written and directed by Prabhuram Vyas and produced by Million Dollar Studios, MRP Entertainment. 

 

Also starring Kanna Ravi, Saravanan, Geetha Kailasam, Harish Kumar, Nikhila Shankar, Rini, Pintu Pandu, Arunachaleshwaran among others, Lover Tamil movie revolves around  Arun (Mandikandan) and Divya (Sri Gouri Priya) whose 6 year relationship is staring to fall apart. Will their love endure their differences, or does love need to endure so much is what forms the rest of the story.

7. Siren - Release Date: February 16, 2024

One of the other biggies to release in February 2024, Siren starring Jayam Ravi, National award winning actress Keerthy Suresh and Anupama Parameswaran in the lead, is an upcoming action drama thriller. The movie written and directed by Antony Bhagyaraj, is a production venture of Home Movie Makers (Jayam Ravi's in-laws). 

 

Jayam Ravi plays an ambulance driver turned criminal in Siren, who awaits the day of his release from prison. What unfolds when the man gets to go on parole, after 14 years of jail imprisonment forms the rest of the story.

 

The movie also has Keerthy Suresh, Yogi Babu, Samuthirakani playing cops and Anupama Parameswaran playing a younger Jayam Ravi's love interest. Siren's technical crew includes GV Prakash for music, Selva Kumar SK for cinematography, Dhilip Subbarayan for stunts, Brindha for choreography, Knack Studios for VFX and Ruben for edits. 8. The Boys - Release Date: February 16, 2024

Written, directed and lead by Santhosh P Jayakumar, The Boys co-starring Siva Sha ra, Arshad, KPY Vinoth, Yuvaraj, Redin Kingsley, Naan Kadavul Rajendran among others revolves around the lead characters' liking towards liquor and the various places it takes them.

 

The ill effects of alcohol and addiction on these group of bachelors is said to be conveyed with comic undertones in The Boys. 9. Vithaikkaaran - Release date: February 16, 2024

Comedy actor Sathish has previously appeared in lead roles in movies like Naai Sekar (2022), Oh My Ghost (2022), and Conjuring Kannappan (2023). Vithaikkaran is Sathish's fourth film as a comic lead, and the actor will be seen playing the role of the protagonist who is to retrieve smuggled goods that have been withheld at an International airport.

A production venture of White Carpet Films, Vithaikkaran is written and directed by Venki and also stars Simran Gupta, Anandraj, Madhusudhan, Subramaniam Siva, John Vijay, Pavel Navageethan, Japan Kumar among others.

10. Byri - Release date: February 23, 2024

An action drama that revolves around pigeon racing, Byri: Part 1  is written and directed by John Glady, and produced by KD Producions. The movie stars Syed Majeed and Meghana Ellen in the lead and Viji Sekar, John Glady, Saranya Ravichandran, Ramesh Arumugam, Vinu Lawrence, Anand, Karthick Prasanna, Francis Kiruba, Rajan in supporting roles.

 

Sakthi Film Factory is distributing Byri: Part 1 in Tamil Nadu.  The movie's technical crew includes Arun Raj for music, A.V. 12. Ninaivellam Neeyada - Release date: February 23, 2024

Ninaivellam Neeyada is veteran music composer Ilaiyaraaja's 1417th film, and revolves around first love and how love from school days continues for a long time. The movie stars Prajan, Manisha Yadav, Sinamikaa, Yuvalakshmi, Rohit, Reddin Kingsley, Manobala (late), Madhumitha among other and is written and directed by  Aadhiraajan.
