Director Raju Murugan of the National award winning film Joker (2016) fame, is directing actor Karthi in a film titled Japan, and latest we hear the movie is a heist thriller. The heist genre is new from the filmmaker, given his past works have leaned towards romantic dramas (Cuckoo, Gypsy, Joker) and political satire (Joker). 

Japan starring Karthi in dual-tone characters and Anu Emmanuel as the female lead, is planning to release in theaters for Diwali this November. Other movies that are potentially lined-up to clash with Japan are Shankar, Kamal Haasan's Indian 2, Dhanush's Captain Miller and Ayalaan starring Sivakarthikeyan in the lead. 

The post theatrical OTT rights of Japan, which is a Dream Warrior Pictures production is said to be with Netflix streaming platform. Japan is expected to release in dubbed Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada languages, and has GV Prakash for music.
