Chiyaan Vikram's Cobra which released on August 31 opened up to mixed reviews from both critics and audience. The makers have even opted for trimmed version post the release as most of them felt the film was lengthy for no reason. 

On opening day the film had grossed over Rs. 12 Cr at the Tamil Nadu box office. In Chennai city alone the film had grossed Rs. 85 Lakhs. However due to poor word of mouth, Cobra did not perform same on the next day. In overseas regions, Cobra performed below average to average on the opening day. 

Since the movie is made on a huge budget of Rs. 100 Cr+, the film recovering its cost seems uncertain especially with poor word-of-mouth.
