Coronavirus Update: Indian Films, TV shows & Web-Series Suspend Shootings till March 30!

After movie theater shut-downs in several Indian states and the postponement of film releases, the Coronavirus outbreak in India has brought about the stalling of the shooting altogether.

The Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA) on Sunday called for a halt of shoots of all entertainment formats like movies, TV shows and web-series from March 19, 2020 till March 30, 2020 and the decision was taken after consultation with Western India Film Producers’ Association (WIFPA), Indian Film and TV Producers Council (IFTPC), Indian Film and Television Directors’ Association (IFTDA) and Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE).

"Important bodies of film and entertainment industry met today to deal with the issue of coronavirus..We have given a gap till Thursday so that people get ready accordingly, pack up and return from outstation..We have also decided that all our sets, despite not being used, will be sanitised, cleaned..", Ashoke Pandit, president of IFTDA, told reporters post the meeting.

Since the wages of daily-workers are due to be affected because of this move, the producers have decided to take care of their own workers through their respective companies. JD Majethia, chairman, TV wing of  IFTPC said,

"There will be losses but we all are standing united... All the broadcasters are very sensitive. They care about their workers as well. This is a pandemic so everyone is concerned. It's their call what they want to air ahead but they have time to finish their work till Wednesday",

'The Hindu' quotes film-maker Anubhav Sinha further on the matter as saying, “During such times it is practically impossible to set up a machinery in place quickly..So what I am doing is that any daily wage worker from my last film who has an urgent need because of the shoot cancellations can reach out to the respective head of department (HoD) and then the HoD will reach out to me and I will do the best that I can do,”
