Movies This Week: Hits & Misses Alike!

New releases this week have mostly been all good but not good enough even with interesting and exciting content. A detailed look into how the movies this week have fared:

  • Hero (Tamil): The story of a how a fake-certificate seller ends up becoming a vigilante, Hero starring Sivakarthikeyan, Arjun and Abhay Deol in key roles is in many ways a spiritual follow-up to Shankar's Gentleman. The movie's interesting premise may not have lived completely in execution but it does make for a fairly engaging watch. (Review Here)

  • Thambi (Tamil): An engaging-thriller starring Karthi, Jyotika and Sathyaraj, Thambi is the story of how a conman returns as the long-last missing person only to become a target and solve the mystery behind the missing brother's details. Another good outing from Jeethu Joseph (Review Here)

  • Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (English): This movie concludes the nine-part 'Skywalker' saga in the Star Wars universe and is the third movie of the 'Star Wars Sequel' trilogy. As with every star wars movie, this latest release too has been a hit with hard-core fans, but has evoked mixed reactions otherwise for reasons such as pace of the movie and missing a clear over-arching narrative spanning 9 films.

  • Ruler (Telugu): An old-school action drama starring Nandamuri Balakrishna, Sonal Chauhan, Vedhicka Kumar, and Bhumika Chawla, Ruler is a K. S. Ravikumar directorial and has failed to impress the audience this week.

  • Prathi Roju Pandage (Telugu): This family drama is the story of a grandson, Sai Tej, who tries to unite his family to make his grandfather Satyaraj`s last ailing days happy and blissful. A predictable film that stands out for its terrific performances. (Review Here)

  • Driving License (Malayalam): Starring Prithviraj and Suraj Venjaramoodu in the lead roles, Driving License addresses the forever debatable star-fan relationship and if SRK's Fan was a serious portrayal of an obsession going south and bitter, this new Malayalam movie is more comical. Driving License has been deemed the best-watch among the films this week.

  • Dabangg 3 (Hindi): The third installment in the Dabangg franchise, this movie is yet another action-masala flick which traces Salman Khan's early life in the story and how he came to be 'Chulbul'. Salman also faces-off Sudeep in a cop-villain rivalry and the end-result has been deemed not appealing.
