After 2.0, the 3D trend makes a comeback in South Indian Films!

Unlike the west, 3D films in India have been far and few and in the South the film that made immense impact with the 3D technology it used was the Shankar directed 2.0. The film was entirely shot using a 3D camera (instead of being converted to 3D later on) and it now holds its place among memorable 3D films since My Dear Kuttichathan in 1984.

The budget and the scale of 2.0 is understandably hard to recreate; however South Indian Films are seeing a comeback in the 3D trend with as many as three films already in the making using the multi-dimensional technology. Here is a detailed look at these films:

Lisaa (Tamil)

Director P.G. Muhiah produced Lisaa is a horror thriller starring Anjali in the lead and is currently in its post production, awaiting release. At the time of inception, the producer who has handled the cinematography of the film too had said,

“It has been a long time since a horror film has been made in 3D. In fact, in Tamil, there are hardly any. We looked at a few options - converting to 3D in post, using the technique used in Ambuli and so on..But finally, we decided to shoot it in 3D just like how they do abroad. We have used the same rigs that have been used to shoot 2.0. In fact, we are going to shoot in Helium 8K camera, which is even more advanced,”

If one got to experience technology in 2.0's 3D version, Lisaa promises ghosts and horror elements in three dimension.

Kaala Bhairava (Tamil)
Post delivering a box-office success Kanchana 3, the Raghava Lawrence - Sun Pictures duo announced that their project will be a 3D horror flick titled Kaala Bairava. It is believed that the film will be shot and converted to 3D and will have snakes as the primary element of attraction in the film.

Barroz - Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure (Malayalam)

The 3D timeline comes a full circle with this project, for the director of India's first 3D film My Dear Kuttichathan is making a comeback as a writer for another 3D film titled Barroz - Guardian of D' Gama's Treasure, featuring Mohanlal in the lead.

The Malayalam star will also be making his directorial debut with this project which is expected to be shot in 3D and will follow the story of Barroz who sets out to find the predecessors of a young man who claims to be a descendant of Vasco Da Gama.

Treasure hunting, ship expedition and the like sounds exciting in a 3D format and we cannot but wait for this film to come out.
