Pyaar Prema Kaadhal Songs - Music Review

Suhansid Srikanth

At any given day.. a Yuvan Shankar Raja album with 13 songs in it is a treat. Pyaar Prema Kaadhal is no Katradhu Tamizh or a 7G that intensely celebrates the tragic love or underlines the emotions of characters gone too far into each other. This is a contemporary album that orderly holds one song for each moment in the ordinary love of modern life between a Hello & a Let's break up. The lyrics are no stunners. And we doesn't bother much as we know the modern love would be content enough with 'Kaadhale.. Vaaname.. Megame.. Dhoorame..'. But still, more than Peranbu.. it is in an album like this, I seriously miss Na. Muthukumar. I wonder what sort of adolescence and thrill of first love would have adrenaline rushed into the songs given he penned this. That aside.. still the album is a package gift to people in love. Probably the most full-on romantic outing from Yuvan in a very long time.

High On Love Prelude : To the already trending High On Love number, this theme sets the mood for the album in a high octane note.

High On Love : A clash of typical Yuvan's beat track and typical Sid Sriram's rendition can end up in nothing but a peppy number like this. Despite being a no surprise number from someone like Yuvan.. just with the way Sid cuts the lyrics into rhythm with his singing, the song becomes easily addictive.
Dope Track : Sung by Yuvan himself.. Dope Track is heartbreakingly rendered. The rhythmic 'Nadhigalin nilavadhu' is where it gets into those cutthroat Yuvan pathos zones. And we can only wish the film musters up enough story and strength to hold a song like this.

Surprise Me : It is not until Yuvan takes over in the middle of the song.. the surprise hits you. Priya Mali's poppish voice that glorifies the love the girl has for him is seductive when followed by effervescence of youth in Yuvan's vocals. 'Idhai kaadhal endra chinna sollil pootti vaikkaadhe!' catches my attention.

Never Let Me Go : T
his is my favorite track so far. The haunting opening portions reminds one of the late 90s vibes. And it is a treat to hear a number that has distinct Tamil renditions of lyrics. Suranjan's vocal heaviness ooze out a pain that hammers slowly. The charanam's questionaire structure tossing between fate and destiny is beautifully complimented by Shwetha Pandit's contrastingly sweet rendering.

I Will Never Let You Go :
This, a brother track to 'Never Let Me Go' is presented as a female version of the earlier. If the former was about male pleading and listing out how he would suffer.. this one is the girl assuring that she will never let him go. The interlude music drenched with aalaaps of Shweta delights one. Despite the 'This is it. And let us face it' mood the song has.. there is a chilling joy of acceptance and positivity of offering one's presence in it.

And then there are lot of little bit songs that hopefully would comes as a background kick in the film. There is Hello, an Acapella number by Devan Ekambaram is flirtacious.

'Lets be Friends' by Cliffy Carlton takes us back to those Thulluvadho Ilamai, Kadhal Konden, 7G times when Yuvan used to make those little bit songs that surprises you. The 'Oh Vennilaa' chorus is ramping. There is 'Secret Window' that holds Al Rufian's folkish interpration of craziness in love backed up by minimalistic beats. 'Wake me up Everyday' with the YouTube sensation TeeJay, a little number that is also more in his style. 'Miss you Papa', as cheesy as it sounds is the latest addition to the 'miss you' culture of modern love. The 'O Butterfly' sort of chords opening up to the slow version of High On Love is orchestrated with the blessing chorus of 'Pyaar Prema Kaadhal'. 'Its Over' by Shwetha Pandit again.. hauntingly sings the closure of a relationship.

Bottomline:
Pyaar Prema Kaadhal is Yuvan effortlessly offering 100+ trending ringtones and viral clips to do dubsmash and musically for youngsters. The soulfulness of the songs depends upon our opinions about how we look at love. But as standout numbers.. Yuvan is unstoppable in this romantic soundtrack that doesn't blink an eye about being cheesy and super cheesy.
