A Breezy Romance That Delightfully Tackles Complex Emotions!!!

It is not often that you would associate a lighthearted film to being meaningful. But here is one from a debut filmmaker. Pyaar Prema Kadhal might be as simple as its title. It is about Love. But it does not merely celebrate the emotion but also deals with its implications.(more)

A little more emotional connect would have worked wonders for the film, which however managed to stay away from a cliched climax.

Unlike certain love stories in the past, which indulged in women-bashing and unapologetic misogyny, this film balances the viewpoints of both the characters when they argue in the emotional scenes. A little more emotional connect would have worked wonders for the film, which, however, manages to stay away from a cliched climax. The director seems to have an understanding of his target audience and has delivered what's needed for them.(more)

Harish Kalyan and Raiza Wilson shine in a refreshingly sensible rom-com

More than the clash of sensibilities, Elan's treatment of it is sensible. That makes Pyaar Prema Kaadhal different. Every character gets an arc. After the casual sex, Sindhuja suggests they remain friends- Sree is flabbergasted. How can someone be friends after sex? Sindhuja explains that it just happened at the heat of the moment. I was surprised when Sree agrees to being friends.(more)

Watch the film for its refreshing take on the modern-day romance.

Pyaar Prema Kaadhal has as its lead actors two Bigg Boss Tamil contestants, and their performances come as a pleasant surprise. Harish Kalyan is really good as Sree Kumar. But, at times, Raiza looks conscious and camera-aware, but still manages to convince as the level-headed modern woman. Though Mani Ratnam's OK Kanmani and Ram's Taramani have dealt with the subject earlier and with more seriousness, Elaan gives a comic and light-hearted angle to the same. As a result, things in Pyaar Prema Kaadhal look much easier.(more)

love in the times we live in

Elan is also in full control in the climax, neatly juxtaposing a dance on stage to the conflict between the lead characters. He has a lot of help throughout the film - from his producer-composer Yuvan Shankar Raja. When Shree is on the lookout for Sindhuja, Yuvan is on the piano and giving us a simple tune. Yet, when Sindhuja is in search for Shree later in the film, Yuvan throws us a bouncer, giving us a textured melody. It's the sound that fittingly rounds off this complicated romance.(more)

A soothing love story

The film looks glossy thanks to the aesthetic visuals of Raja Bhattacharjee. Though Pyaar Prema Kaadhal has twelve songs, Elann has beautifully placed it in his screenplay and it is easily one of the best albums from Yuvan Shankar Raja, be it the background score or songs, the composer is in a tremendous form.(more)
