Kalakalappu 2 starts the Hit meter for Kollywood this year

 

With a TN gross of around 21 CR (Chennai city gross of 4.24 CR) after 25 days in running, Kalakalappu 2 can now be classified as a genuine Hit in the state. The distributors associated with the film have either already recovered their investment or are very close to the breakeven mark. Kalakalappu 2 thus opens the Hit count for Kollywood this year.

The absence of any new Tamil releases due to the strike, has made it easier for Kalakalappu 2 to hold on to a large chunk of screens even now. Kalakalappu 2's success proves that the Sundar C brand comedy mass masala still works, with the right cast and packaging. Will the director now move on to his dream project Sangamithra or will he make another safe bet comedy quickie?
