Typical Sundar C template with both hits and misses

Kalakalappu 2 is fast food. The quality might take a dip but it seems to serve its purpose.(more)

Kalakalappu 2 - Laughathon

Sundar C's forte is comedy and he does not disappoint in that area and as usual it is the last half an hour or so that turns out to be virtually a non-stop laughathon. Go for 'Kalakalappu2' whose ensemble cast takes turns to keep you in splits.(more)

Mindless and logicless laughter for 2 and half hours!

Kalakalappu 2 is different from the first part, and there is no similarity, not even the characters. The only connect to this sequel with its first part, is the flavour and treatment given to the screenplay. Sundar.C's experience comes in handy and the ace director packages well with right commercial elements in apt proportions. However, he could've still worked on a few comedies which look old and dusted. Something freshly written would have complemented the film more. On the whole, serious moviegoers might feel the lack of completeness. However, for the family audiences and kids, it will be satisfying watch for its high dosage of comedy.(more)

KALAKALAPPU 2 MOVIE REVIEW

Plots have always been a clothes-hanger for Sundar C to string his comedy sequences and that is the case here, too. After establishing the core plot, here, he keeps introducing newer sub-plots and newer characters. He devotes the entire first half to establishing the problems of Seenu and Jai. The actors have minimal scope for comedy and are mainly required to play straight-faced characters who drive the plot, romance the heroines (who are there mainly to add some glam) and dance in the songs (too many and the chief reason behind the length of the film). Emerges a clear winner as an enjoyable ride

Technically, colorful frames of UK Senthilkumar and Kasi backdrop give the vibrant feel to the film. Kalakalappu 2 scores primarily because it takes you to a happy zone. Sundar C has packaged the film with necessary elements to entertain his target audiences. On the whole, the film emerges a clear winner. Much of that credit must go to its actors who pull out all stops to make it an enjoyable ride. (more)

A typical Sunder C slapstick comedy similar to Rohit Shetty's Golmaal series

Sundar C's Kalakalappu is now a franchise like Rohit Shetty's Golmaal series, as part 2 ends with a promise of a part 3. More fun in the future with a brand new star cast.(more)

Comedy of errors

Youd be a duffer to expect logic in a Sundar C comic caper, but the romantic portions (there are four of them involving Jiiva, Jai, Satish and Shiva) are incredulous. Nikki falls in love with Jai because he attempts to commit suicide in front of her, after a few days of relentless pursuit. His attempt doesn't succeed; he instead falls on a handful of sacks that contain Holi colour powder. And everyone ends up dancing to a funky song, 'Thaaru Maaru', that sounds tailor-made for a pub. Mind you, all this is happening in Kasi on the banks of the Ganges. Everyone seems to be having fun on the big screen. At our expense, of course.(more)

There is nothing to cheer about in this Sundar C film

Chaos has been Sundar.C's forte. The director has been very good in handling chaotic scripts in the past where the plot continuously moves back and forth, ending in a high-activity climax. The warehouse climax from Ullathai Allitha is a classic. But, he takes it a bit too far in Kalakalapu 2. The plot keeps moving unpredictably in concentric circles. Kalakalappu 2 runs for a massive 153 minutes, by the end of which all you're searching for is the exit door.(more)
