Multiplex BO Collections for Week 1

Multiplex Week 1 BO Collections for Billa 2 (July 13 to July 20)

The Box Office collections for Ajith's Billa 2 in select multiplexes are tabulated for the week of July 13 to July 20. The box office revenue data for Billa 2 is consistent with the openings seen earlier for other big movies released in the past year -- Mankatha, 7aum Arivu and Nanban.

For e.g., Billa 2 collections were as high as Mankatha in Chennai plexes while Nanban had noticeably higher collections in Coimbatore. However in Bangalore and most of multiplexes in North India, 7aum Arivu was ahead of other 3 movies. So, the pattern is mixed across these three movies due to various logical reasons (i.e., Long/festival weekend release, Nanban being a 3 Idiot remake, 7aum Arivu's and Velayudham canibalizing each other's collections, etc.)

Is Billa 2 a "Hit"?

Based on the fact that both Nanban and 7aum Arivu were sold for more than 1.5 to 2 times compared to that of distribution rights of Billa 2 in Tamil Nadu, we can safely assume that most TN distributors recovered their investments by end of week 1 due to tremendous hype and release strategy of Billa2.

This comfortably puts Billa 2 in "Above Average" category without much debate. We need to wait till the end of second full week box-office data from multiplexes and other centres to confirm whether Billa 2 can be classified as "Hit" as per trade criteria.

Note: 1. multiplex data showing "0" are locations where BO numbers were not readily accessible. 2. The BO numbers were taken only Friday to Thursday. For Mankatha and 7aum Arivu which were released mid-week, the verdict was known by the time it got to Friday. Hence, Box Office registered slightly lower number since almost 25 to 30 shows were completed before the first Friday.
