Vijay's Jana Nayagan to be rewatched by CBFC revising committee tomorrow: Reports

The revising committee of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) is set to rewatch Vijay’s upcoming film Jana Nayagan on Tuesday, according to a report by NDTV. The screening was originally scheduled for last Monday but was postponed after a committee member reportedly fell ill.

Following the re-evaluation, the film is speculated to be scheduled for release after the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, which are set to take place on April 23

The film was initially slated to release on January 9, but the date was postponed after the producers said a CBFC committee that viewed the film in December 2025 recommended certain excisions, which the team claimed to have implemented. However, a member of the original committee later filed a complaint alleging that the film hurt the sentiments of certain religions and that the makers had used armed forces logos without consultation. Following this, the CBFC chairman decided to send the film to a revising committee.

In a recent development, the makers also moved to withdraw their case against the CBFC from the Madras High Court registry. The production banner had earlier approached the court in January after the certification body decided to send the film for revising committee review.

Jana Nayagan features an ensemble cast including Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Pooja Hegde, and Narain. There has also been persistent buzz that the film may be a remake of Bhagavanth Kesari, though the makers have not confirmed it.

The film has music by Anirudh Ravichander, cinematography by Sathyan Sooryan, and editing by Pradeep E Ragav. Apart from KVN Productions, the film is co-produced by Jagadish Palanisamy and Lohith NK.
