Actor Dhanush's production house Wunderbar Films Private Limited has filed a civil suit in the Madras High Court against actress Nayanthara, and her director-husband Vignesh Sivan. On November 18, 2024 Nayanthara in a three page open letter had revealed that Dhanush, as the producer of her 2013 movie Naanum Rowdy Dhaan (NRD), has been unwilling to let the usage of the film related content in her Netflix documentary Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale.
Nayanthara's letter also claimed that Wunderbar Films had sent Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan a legal notice demanding damages of Rs. 10 Cr. because a three second BTS footage from the shooting spot of Naanum Rowdy Dhaan had featured in the trailer of Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale. Nayanthara also blamed that Dhanush not letting her use the NRD footage had lead the team to edit and re-edit the documentary, and had caused the delay in its OTT release for 2 years.
Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale premiered on November 20, 2024 on Netflix and has been streaming for more than a week now. It does come with BTS footages from the NRD film sets. Radhika Sarathkumar who is one of the featuring actors in the part-scripted docu, even name drops Dhanush at one point in Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale.
At this time, Dhanush & co. have moved court to objecting to the use of Naanum Rowdy Dhaan related footages in Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale. A Madras High Court judge on Wednesday granted permission to let Wunderbar Films take legal action against the Mumbai based Los Gatos Production Services India LLP, an entity through which Netflix reports its content investments in India.
Dhanush's Wunderbar Films had appealed to the Madras High Court to let Los Gatos company be included in their legal action against other Chennai based entities like Nayanthara, Vignesh Shivan, and the couple's production banner Rowdy Pictures Private Limited. After hearing the preliminary arguments by both sides, the Madras High Court judge allowed for Los Gatos also to be sued by Dhanush, without expressing any opinions on the main case.
