Meiyazhagan starring Karthi, Arvind Swami in the lead is an upcoming comedy drama that is slated to release on September 27, 2024. The movie, directed by C Prem Kumar had a trailer release on Monday, and the video unleashes the world of what comes across as two distant relatives. Is there more to the emotional bond that these two men share, is what seems to be the rest of Meiyazhagan. 

Meiyazhagan was originally written as a book by C Prem Kumar who said that he had envisioned actors Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan as his two leading men. When Meiyazhagan was being made into a movie instead, Karthi took the role of Rajinikanth and Arvind Swami, Kamal Haasan's. While Arvind Swami plays a role named Arul, Meiyazhagan director has said of Karthi's role,

“Karthi's character is based on my friend, and director (Maruthupandian) who came all the way from the village to make a film. He did a film called Asuravadham (2018). His (Maruthupandian's) traits have been placed in Karthi’s character.

 

I have also borrowed from a plumber who visited my house, whose traits too are in Karthi's character. They are all innocent, not ignorant or mentally retarded. They are absolutely perfect people who consciously decide to remain that way. We may think they don’t know but they are just blissfully unaware.”

Just like director Prem Kumar's debut movie 96, Meiyazhagan too takes place over the course of a night, comes with a runtime of less than 2 hours, and revolves primarily across the two leading characters. Meiyazhagan is produced by Jyotika and Suriya's 2D Entertainment, and has Govind Vasantha for music.

Star actor Kamal Haasan has lent his vocals to two songs in the movie, one of which could be heard in the Meiyazhagan trailer. Also starring Sri Divya, Rajkiran, Devadarshini, Ilavarasu, Karunakaran, among others, Meiyazhagan has Mahendiran Jayaraju for cinematography, R.Govindaraj for edits, Rajeevan for production design, Ayyapan for art, and Subhashree Kaarthik Vijay for the costumes.
