For the first time ever, director H. Vinoth has officially confirmed that he is directing Thalapathy 69 (tentative title), actor Vijay's last movie before political entry. Attending an awards ceremony on August 15, 2024, H. Vinoth has said that Thalapathy 69 will be a full-on commercial movie. Earlier buzz had indicated that it will be a political outing, and when asked about the same, H. Vinoth has said,

"200% it will be a 'Thalapathy' film, a film that everyone can watch commercially. No (it will not be a full fledged political movie). When I committed to the movie itself, (it was known) that it will be seen by all age groups, and some of the political parties. (so it was kept in mind that) the movie should be viewable for all. 

 

(Thalapathy 69) will not attack a particular political party or a politician, but will have light (political) undertones. It will be 100% a commercial film." 

While further official announcements await on Thalapathy 69, it has been long reported that Anirudh Ravichander will mostly likely compose music for Thalapathy 69. Bengaluru-based KVN Productions, known for predominantly producing Kannada and Telugu films, is said to be bankrolling Thalapathy 69.

The movie is expected to go on floors this October or November, with Sathyan Sooryan for cinematography. Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and Mamitha Baiju have been buzzed to play female leads in Thalapathy 69.
