On August 28, 2023 the official announcement of Thani Oruvan 2, the sequel to the Tamil hit Thani Oruvan (2015) dropped. Thani Oruvan 2 brings back Jayam Ravi as the honest IPS officer Mithran, alonside Nayanthara as his love interest Dr. Mahima, a forensic specialist. 

Writer, director Mohan Raja set up the sequel by stating in the announcement video, "In this story, it is the enemy who comes in search of you (Mithran)". This lead to expectations that someone bigger than Siddharth Abhimanyu, the villain from the first movie (played brilliantly by Arvind Swami) was coming in search of Mithran or to avenge the unfinished business of Siddharth Abhimanyu. 

In Decemeber 2023, there was a widespread buzz that Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan is in consideration to play the villain in Thani Oruvan 2. Latest MovieCrow hears, Abhishek Bachchan met with the team from AGS Productions during his visit to Chennai last week, and the Hindi film star might indeed end up playing the baddie to Jayam Ravi in Thani Oruvan 2. 

Thani Oruvan 2 is expected to begin shooting this year.
