Thalaivar 171 (tentative title) is an upcoming Rajinikanth starrer that is all set for a title-reveal-teaser release on April 22, 2024 [Monday]. Word in the grapevine is that Rajinikanth, director Lokesh Kanagaraj and team and currently filming for the same in Chennai, and that the shooting of Thalaivar 171 promo has been planned for 2 days i.e. April 10, 2024 and April 11, 2024. 

While buzz about Thalaivar 171 title varies from being in English to Kazhugu, Thalaivar 171's plot was said to be taking place within a single day like that of Lokesh Kanagaraj's Kaithi (2019). Latest we hear, director Lokesh is said to have taken inspiration from the dystopian action-horror anthology - The Purge* franchise for Thalaivar 171. 

*The Purge movies move around a seemingly normal, crime-free society in the near future. This quickly changes when an annual event known as "the Purge", in which all crimes, including murder, is pronounced legal for a 12-hour period, turning the world into a dystopia.

Thalaivar 171 cast is yet to be officially announced but so far actors like Vijay Sethupathi, 'Mike' Mohan have been linked to the project. Actress Shobana, who famously paired opposite Rajinikanth in the iconic Mani Ratnam hit Thalapathi (1991), and has starred alongside the Superstar in the animated period action Kochadaiiyan (2014), has also been buzzed to be playing a role in Thalaivar 171. 

Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan and Ranveer Singh have also been buzzed to be playing cameos in Thalaivar 171. A Sun Pictures production, Thalaivar 171 has Anirudh Ravichander for music, Anbariv for stunts. Girish Gangadharan is said to be handling the cinematography.
