Action thriller Mahaan written and directed by Karthik Subbaraj celebrated two years of its release on February 10, 2024. The movie made for the big screen resorted to a direct OTT release on Amazon Prime Video during the Coronavirus pandemic in 2020. Now film's lead star Vikram has called the movie and the character played by him 'one of his most favourites', and has teased the possibility of a sequel i.e. Mahaan 2. 

Taking to the X platform, actor Vikram shared two images of himself as 'Gandhi Mahaan', who goes from a a middle-aged liquor-ban activist to a full time gangster who has/ has been abandoned by his family.

Mahaan is a production venture of 7 Screen Studio and producer SS Lalit Kumar chose Cobra (2020) - another Vikram starrer also produced by him to be released in theaters back then. Lalit Kumar would share in 2023 that he was scolded by his Master (2021), Leo (2023) star Vijay, who after watching Mahaan reprimanded the producer for releasing Karthik Subbaraj's movie on a streaming platform instead of in cinema halls.
