Director Desingh Periyasamy who made his feature film debut with Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal (2020), is next directing Silambarasan TR in STR 48 (tentative title). The movie was officially announced in March this year, and is a production venture of Kamal Haasan's Raaj Kamal Films International (RKFI). 

Desingh Periyasamy has now revealed in a TOI interview that STR 48 is a historical film, and an action entertainer for all ages. The director has said that since STR 48 is a big budget movie, shooting will take sometime to begin. For the movie, Silamabarasan TR has taken special martial arts training in Thalailand, and has also been undergoing intense workout training in London.

Contrary to rumours about Deepika Padukone being cast, Desingh has said that STR 48's female lead has not been finalized yet.
