Mani Ratnam directed Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 (PS-I) is an upcoming multi-starrer period drama which is gearing up to release in theaters on September 30, 2022. The film produced by Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions is buzzed to have sold its post-theatrical digital rights to Amazon Prime Video.

An official announcement on this OTT partnership is however awaited. Based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's famous Tamil novel of the same name, PS1 primarily revolves around the three children of King Sundara Chola - Aditya Karikalan (Vikram), Kundavai (Trisha) and Arulmozhi Varman alias Ponniyin Selvan (Jayam Ravi).

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be seen in dual roles of Nandini, the main antagonist of the story and her mother Queen Mandakini, while Karthi plays Vallavaraiyan Vandiyadevan, Trisha's love interest and a trusted aide to Vikram's character.
