Endhiran Plagiarism case trial adjourned to March!

The Endhiran plagiarism case which was the center of media attention earlier this month came for a hearing on February 19 at the Metropolitan Magistrate Court-II, Egmore. The Chennai court adjourned a trial proceeding in the case filed against film's director Shankar to March 19, 2021.

Director Shankar's side had filed a memo of Friday seeking evidence of claim made by Arur Tamilnadan, which states that Shankar's 2010 movie starring Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is based on a short story by him.

Arur claims that Endhiran violates the provisions of Copyright Act, 1957 of his story titled Jigubawhich was published in a Tamil magazine Iniya Udhayam in 1996 and later re-published as a novel titled Dhik Dhik Dheepika in 2007.

The Madras High Court had attested the copyright claim prima facie and when directed Shankar appealed in Supreme Court against the same, the court dismissed it stating that the findings of the high court will not influence the trial case.
