In an official announcement today, producer Archana Kalpathi announced via her twitter handle that the Telugu rights of AGS Productions' upcoming movie Bigil, which stars Vijay in the lead has been bagged by Mahesh Koneru and East Coast Productions. She has also said that the movie will be screened across 400 screens in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana this Diwali. And if the Diwali release of Venkatesh and Naga Chaitanya’s Venky Mama gets confirmed, then the Telugu audience can expect a double bonanza at the box-office. 

Before the official announcement, there were reports that Bigil was looking at closing the Telugu distribution rights at a whopping price of Rs. 9 Cr., because of the success of Vijay's earlier releases Sarkar and Adhirindhi (Mersal), in the state. However, there is no confirmation to the price on which the deal was sealed.

A sports drama based on women's football, Bigil is directed by Atlee, has Nayanthara playing female lead and has music by A.R. Rahman.
