Saaho starring Prabhas and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead roles directed by Sujeeth was initially slated for release on August 15 for Independence Day. The makers due to delay in post-production have now postponed the film's release date to August 30, 2019. With the news of Saaho, the much-awaited biggie, getting postponed to August 30, all eyes are on Suriya starrer Kaapppan which is scheduled for release on the same day.
Kollywood grapevine is abuzz as to whether Kaappaan will release on August 30 as announced and clash with Saaho or advance the film's release date to August 15 as Jayam Ravi's Comali is the only other film which will be releasing on that day. Also, the makers get the Independence holiday advantage which will help to boost the film's revenue by a great extent. The film can enjoy two weeks theatrical run sans any competition until the release of Saaho on August 30.
The overseas distribution rights of both Saaho and Kaappaan has been bagged by the same distribution house Phars Film. The question is whether the overseas distributor be happy about releasing both the movies on the same day. With Saaho having garnered a huge amount of expectation, the availability of screens for Kaapppan may be limited at the overseas market as Saaho will be given top priority by the exhibitors as well. While August 15, might turn out to be a good bet for Kaapppan makers, speculations are also rife that the movie release may be postponed to September too. Right now, Suriya who is in desperate need of a hit has pinned all his hopes on Kaappaan. However an official announcement is awaited from the makers as to whether there will be a change of plan in the release date.
Kaappaan starring Suriya, Mohanlal, Arya, Sayyeshaa and Boman Irani in the lead roles is directed by KV Anand and produced by Lyca Productions.
