In the event of the Pollachi Sexual Abuse Case taking over the headlines and garnering a lot of infuriating reactions from the public, call for swift action and punishment of the culprits has understandably been projected as the need of the hour.
Actor-politician Kamal Haasan seems to have flagged off this need, for the Ulaganayagan was seen visiting the DGP office at Chennai today, with a plea for swift action against the arrested culprits. He had earlier stated,
"More than 60 women from Pollachi in Coimbatore, have been blackmailed and tortured by a group of men. Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) strongly condemns this. MNM urges the police to take swift action."
Eight men have so far been arrested in Coimbatore regarding the case with four of the main accused, Thirunavukkarasu, Sabarirajan, Sathish and Vasanthakumar have been charged with sexual abuse and intimidation. The police have said that they are contemplating slapping the Goonda Act on the other four.
In connection with the case, the AIADMK expelled A Nagaraj from Pollachi and stated that he brought 'disrepute to the party' by having his name linked to the offence. Social media is showing solidarity by trending hashtags like #PunishTheRapists and calling for the attention of national media.
