With the 48 days long TPFC strike coming to an end, Kollywood seems to be back on action with new film announcements, getting ready for audio launch, film shoots and and also re-scheduling of release dates. As many as 30 films were lined up for release during the strike period, the makers are now busy charting out plans to lock in new release date for these films. The total shutdown didn't see any new Tamil film releases from March 1.
Here's the happy news! Karthik Subbaraj's, silent thriller film, Mercury will be the first film to hit the screens this Friday (April 20). Karthik Subbaraj made the announcement on his Twitter page. He wrote:
நீங்கள் தந்த மற்றும் தரப்போகும் ஆதரவுக்கும் நம்பிக்கைக்கும் ஆயிரம் நன்றிகளுடன்... 🙏

Mercury released worldwide on April 13, except in Tamil Nadu due to the strike. The film is now hitting the screens in Tamil Nadu as the first release post the film strike. Director Karthik Subbaraj and lead actor Prabhu Deva had earlier appealed to the audience to watch the films in theatres and not resort to pirated versions while the film released worldwide.
Vishal has also expressed his happiness and support for the release of the film in Tamil Nadu post the strike.
