An intriguing coincidence may be on the cards for Tamil cinema fans. Sigma, the directorial debut of Jason Sanjay — son of Chief Minister Vijay has been officially confirmed for a July 31 theatrical release. Meanwhile, Jana Nayagan, Vijay's own swansong as an actor directed by H Vinoth, is also eyeing the same date, pending the arrival of its censor certificate.

While July 23 has been floated as an alternative for Jana Nayagan, sources suggest July 31 is the more likely choice given the limited promotional window that would remain if the earlier date were pursued.

If both films land on July 31, it would make for a remarkable father-son moment at the box office  Vijay's final film as an actor releasing on the same day as his son's directorial debut.
