Sources indicate that Mani Ratnam's upcoming directorial with Vijay Sethupathi and Sai Pallavi, tentatively titled Production No. 23, has sold its digital streaming rights to Netflix for Rs 20 crore, even before the film has gone on floors. While the project was earlier expected to begin production in June, fresh reports now point to a July start.
Sources also note that this continues Mani Ratnam's working relationship with Netflix, following the streaming premiere of Thug Life, even though both Ponniyin Selvan films had premiered on Prime Video after their theatrical runs.
The film is backed by Madras Talkies along with Lyca Productions and India Talkies, with AR Rahman composing the music. Plot, genre and extended cast details remain unconfirmed.
