Bhagyaraj's Family Fulfils His Organ Donation Pledge - State Honours Announced for Sunday

K Bhagyaraj's family has arranged for the late filmmaker's eyes to be donated, honouring a pledge he had made years ago. Medical professionals visited his residence on Saturday to collect his eyes following his passing. Bhagyaraj passed away in Chennai on Saturday after a cardiac arrest at the age of 73.

His body is being kept at his Nungambakkam residence for the public to pay their final respects. Chief Minister Joseph Vijay has announced state honours for the filmmaker, with the funeral scheduled for 1:30 pm on Sunday.

Widely regarded as the 'Screenplay King' and a protege of the late Bharathiraja, Bhagyaraj shaped Tamil cinema through the 1980s and beyond with stories rooted in middle-class realities and everyday life. A pioneer of the all-in-one filmmaker concept, he served as director, actor, writer, producer and even music composer across a career spanning over five decades.
