Sudha Kongara Moves Court Over Rs 8.39 Crore Dues from Parasakthi

Director Sudha Kongara has approached the Madras High Court alleging that she is owed Rs 8.39 crore in pending remuneration from Dawn Pictures for her film Parasakthi. According to submissions made on Tuesday, her agreement for the film stood at Rs 15 crore plus GST, totalling Rs 17.70 crore, of which Rs 9.31 crore has been paid so far.

Her counsel argued that the film has already released and all intellectual property rights had been transferred under the agreement, seeking interim relief under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act. As part of the plea, Sudha also sought to restrain the release of Idhayam Murali, another Dawn Pictures production scheduled for July 10, citing the studio's failure to clear her dues despite Parasakthi's reported success and earnings of around Rs 100 crore.

Justice Kumaresh Babu directed that Parasakthi should not have a satellite release until July 8, and asked Dawn Pictures to respond by July 7 to Sudha's request concerning Idhayam Murali. It was clarified that Parasakthi's OTT release had already taken place, with the dispute pertaining only to satellite rights. The matter will be heard again on July 8.

Dawn Pictures, founded by Aakash Baskaran, began production with Dhanush's Idli Kadai before Parasakthi, and is now awaiting a verdict that could affect Idhayam Murali's scheduled July 10 release.
