Mani Ratnam's Kadal Preview - SWOT Analysis

by Raven

One of the most expected films ‘Kadal’, directed by ace director Mani Ratnam, is all set to release this Friday (February 1). Set in the backdrop of sea, the movie is touted to be an intense love story. The movie brings back the dream combination of Mani Ratnam and music director A. R. Rahman. Gautham Karthik and Thulasi Nair are making their debuts with the film. Arvind Swamy and Arjun play supporting lead roles in the movie. Editing is by national award winning editor Sreekar Prasad and cinematography is by Rajiv Menon.

Strengths

  • It has been a long time since Mani Ratnam made a direct Tamil film. With Kadal being a direct Tamil film, one can expect the film to retain the local flavour more.
  • Mani Ratnam is one director who can pull in crowd with just his name appearing in the credits of a film. Be it the content or the technical values, he sets his own benchmark and has always been in a different league altogether.
  • A. R. Rahman’s songs have been topping the charts ever since they were released. His background music is expectd to be a treat to the ears. Also, with Rajiv Menon onboard, the movie is expected to be technically sound. The trailers and teasers too vouch for that.
  • The lead actors, Gautham Karthik and Thulasi Nair, look fresh and they remind of alaigal oivadhillai with Karthik and Radha jodi.

Opportunities

  • It is a dream debut for Gautham karthik and Thulasi Nair. Not many actors would get a chance to debut with a ‘Mani Ratnam’ film. If they show some promise, they are going to get plenty of new offers. Not to forget, Thulasi Nair has already started working in her next project ‘Yaan’ with Jiiva.

Threats

  • The movie’s running time is about 164 minutes.
  • Kamal Haasan’s magnum opus ‘Vishwaroopam’ is expected to be released today as the court has lifted the ban that was imposed on the film. So, the screen count for ‘Kadal’ is lesser than its potential.  Family audience could select "Vishwaroopam" over Kadal with tremendous publicity already generated for Vishwaroopam due to ban controversy.

Final Words

It’s not that very often one would get to a see a Mani Ratnam’s film. That too, a complete love story from Mani Ratnam makes it even more special. Any movie buff would not want to miss this movie while the rest might have a look at our FDFS review before booking the tickets.
