Kannu Laddu ... (KLTA) Movie Reviews from audience

Here are the reviews pouring in from all over the world for Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya

#1 KLTA tries to make you laugh twice a minute, RAVEN, Chennai

It was very surprising to see a packed house for ‘Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya’ as early as 8 AM in the morning. The movie does not boast of a popular star cast, barring Santhanam's presence. This also goes to show Santhanam’s emergence as a vital force in Tamil films. He is able to pull crowd to the theatres as any other mass hero would do. Credits must also be given to Red Giant Movies for making the film popular among the audience with their vigorous promotions.

Casting: ‘Santhanam has pulled off a great show.’ This has been the often repeated sentence in almost all reviews of Santhanam’s films. It is no different this time. He steals the show with his immaculate timing sense and body language. Power Star Srinivasan has amazing screen presence in the film. The self proclaimed Power Star manages to keep you in splits with his funny expressions and dialogues. He is intentionally funny at few places and unintentionally funny at many places. Although, the songs are not hummable numbers, there are not much of complaints from the audience because they seem to enjoy Powerstar’s presence throughout the songs.

Kudos to the casting choices for roping in the apt persons to play the supporting roles. Even the other lesser known actors do not fail to impress either. Finally, the cameo roles of STR and Gautham Menon act as icing on the cake.

Story and Direction: It is true that the story is already known to you. Director Manikandan has not tried to experiment too much with the storyline. But, more than the story, it is the treatment of the story that makes the movie click with the audience. The ease at which the characters in the movie make you laugh at least twice every minute might make you wonder if you are watching a stage play. Although the comedy sequences are mostly slapstick and the lead stars make fun of each other, no dialogue goes overboard. There are no crude comments made on anyone.

Bottomline: Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya is a hilarious ride that delivers more than what was expected out of it. Watch the film with a gang of friends and you are sure to laugh endlessly.

#2 Bright content gets brighter with treatment, KANNAN VIJAYAKUMAR, Singapore  –

With the trailers and promo garnering stupendous response among the audience,  Santhanam’s gamble (as a producer) has paid off well. Even though KLTA is a remake, it has its own distinctive touch with its modernized presentation. Co-written by Santhanam, the film is treated with the right ingredients of comedy in the right quantity. Even though KLTA has nothing new to offer, it offer 2 hours of non-stop comedy as promised.

Casting: As KK, Santhanam has cake walked throughout the movie. We can truly see how much effort this man has put in to make the film a classic comedy and gladly, it has ended as how he has envisioned. Especially during the romantic scenes, his subtle yet spoof liked body language is awesome.

Many might have doubted the decision of Santhanam when he chose Power Star. This man has thrashed all the criticism by coming with a spectacular combo with Santhanam. As quoted from the heroines dialogue, Power Star have indeed translated his negatives into positive by this film and have been gaining thunderous response in every screen the movie opened. Debutant Sethu have tried but eventually gets overshadowed by the big assemble of cast. Whereas, Vishaka, after a long break have given a decent entry.

Direction & Technical Value : The advertisement film-maker K.S Manikandan has assembled the right casting which results as the main strength of the film. Cinematographer Balasubramanyem’s camera as usual gives a very rich and right look to the film. He has a great balance of colour tones at each segment (e.g. actual story, songs, climax) of the film.  Kudos to art director Vana Raj, for aiding the colourful theme of the film through his vibrant sets and costumes.  Thaman’s cheery and cheeky tune presents the scenes with more impact. Even though KLTA is not a technically demanding film, no compromises have made whatsoever in the technical department. Bright content gets even brighter with polished treatment.

Bottomline : In overall KLTA emerges as the clear winner of this year’s Pongal. Even though KLTA might be a remake and contain a wafer thin premise, it has its own distinctive touch with a well-paced screenplay, excellently timed dialogues and well assembled casting.

#3 Delight for Santhanam and Power Star fans, HARI HARA SUDHAN, Melbourne

KLTA directed by Manikandan & Santhanam debuts as a producer with his own production company Handmade Films with this movie. As rumored the film is a remake of the yesteryear classical "Indru Poi NalaiVa" directed by Bhagyaraj, three youths(Powerstar!) trying to woo a girl next door. They do all sorts of gimmicks to get into the house of the heroine. Santhanam learns music from VTV Ganesh, Powerstar learns dance from Vishaka's dad and Sethu does household chores for Kovai Sarala. Then the friends get into quarrel about who gets the girl and finally who impresses the girl forms rest of the story.

What's good? - Santhanam has made sure that he will have a package of comedians who can bring down the house. He has done that perfectly in this film. Powerstar Srinivasan as a comedian is a big plus, Santhanam as usual had his pet VTV Ganesh and his iconic witty one liners are available all over the film. Both Powerstar and Santhanam had done a wonderful job. Almost Powerstar has done his real life character in this movie, so it's easy for him I hope (all those over-buildups).  Sethu, Vishaka, VTV Ganesh, Kovai Sarala and Vishaka's dad all did their part well.

What's not? - Since the film is a remake there is nothing new in this movie, same old story and same old characters. Little changes in the last. The film could have been trimmed a bit more, the songs make the movie lengthier. Nobody could manage to engage the audience during the songs and songs were not a hit among people which will make it a tiring watch.

Final word : Overall, a decent family watchable movie for the festive season, with lots of fun. This will be a big break for Powerstar. As usual Santhanam rocked with his dialogues which will keep you engaged throughout the movie. If you are expecting a story, then this not your movie. If you want to be happy for three hours, then this will be your perfect choice. For Santhanam and Powerstar fans, this film is a delight for you!
