Billa 2 US Box Office Final Report

Billa 2 final box office tally is $130,000 as per Rentrak after the end of 2nd week. Including unreported centers and premieres, the total gross is roughly around $175,000. This is disappointing given that the movie made a huge splash by releasing in 61 centers with premieres in 39 centers. The pre-release hype helped to get people to theaters on opening Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, the revenue took a nose-dive and further sank during the second weekend making total gross of only $5,000 from 14 centers.

Many small exhibitors who released just a few opening shows in small centers made money. Some large exhibitors who took larger territories in the USA lost money. 

Major reasons are bad reviews, poor word of mouth and absolutely no control of piracy. The movie was freely available on the internet with very good prints starting from Saturday morning. The producers who sold the movie did not take any actions to control piracy. This is believed to be the bigger reason than the content itself as reported by the trade sources. 

To put this in perspective, Mankatha official gross was close to $290,000 as per Rentrak (not including the unreported centers). It is unfortunate that Billa 2 was able to make only 0.4 times the revenue made by Mankatha.  Triangulating all the data points, We can conservatively conclude that the final BO Verdict for Billa 2 in the USA is Below Average.
