Pathu Thala starring Silambarasan TR, Gautham Karthik is an upcoming Tamil movie that is all set to release in theaters on March 30, 2023. The movie when undertaken initially in 2019 was supposed to be an official remake of Narthan's 2017 Kannada hit Mufti. However over the course of time, Pathu Thala has transformed into a movie 'based on/inspired from' Mufti, reveals film's actor Gautham Karthik.

In a recent video interview, Gautham Karthik revealed that Pathu Thala may contain the same characters as Mufti, but Obeli N Krishna has added more characters in the Tamil version. He has also said that while primary characters of Pathu Thala like Silambarasan's AGR character who is a don, his own character of an undercover cop or Priya Bhavani Shankar's character of a scorned sister may look similar to the ones presented in the original movie, the final Pathu Thala film is way different from Mufti. 

"Most people know now, originally it (Pathu Thala) was a Mufti remake...We shot for about 18 days in June 2019...Then (Obeli N) Krishna sir decided to revamp it. Now it not a remake, it has become 'inspired by'. There are characters with the same traits, there are characters that are not even there in Mufti at all. There are (story) lines similar to Mufti, there are (story) lines that are totally different. Now when I watch (Pathu Thala), I don't see the same movie (i.e. Mufti). I have a totally different character from what Sri Murali sir has played there", Gautham Karthik was seen stating.
