96 is a 2018 romantic drama written and directed by C. Prem Kumar which has so far been remade in Kannada as 99 and in Telugu as Jaanu. Despite the Telugu movie having a dubbed Hindi version, 96 is going to Bollywood and this time producer Ajay Kapoor is remaking the story as a direct Hindi version.
Speaking on the remake, Ajay Kapoor said, "96 was a heartwarming, light-hearted romantic tale that got a lot of love from the audience. The story breaks barriers beyond the boundaries of language and region, which inspired me to make the Hindi remake of the film for a national audience."
About the cast and crew of the Hindi remake, the producer further added, "I am actively working on developing the right script for the story with the right kind of director and star cast. Once we finalize all these things, I would like to make an official announcement of the cast and team soon."
96 revolves around two high school sweethearts who meet at a reunion, 22 years after they part. The film has faced several plagiarism charges and has been observed to share similarities with Sarah Paulson starrer Blue Jay (2016) and Kannada movie Charminar (2013).
