Dhanush has responded to the 72nd National Film Awards, which honoured his second directorial Raayan with Best Tamil Film for 2024, and recognized his performance in Captain Miller with a special mention. Taking to social media, the actor-director expressed humility and gratitude for both accolades.

Announcing the results, jury head and director Jayaraj described Raayan as carrying "raw power," with Dhanush commanding the screen through sheer intensity. In his statement, Dhanush thanked the jury and noted that this marks his first National Award for direction — and his third overall. He'd previously won Best Actor for Aadukalam (2010) and Asuran (2019), and had also co-produced Kaaka Muttai (2014) and Visaranai (2015), which won Best Children's Film and Best Tamil Film respectively.

Calling the Raayan win unforgettable, Dhanush said it's a moment he'll treasure for life. On the Captain Miller recognition, he shared that the role holds a special place for him, having long considered it his finest performance — making the special mention feel even more meaningful.

He dedicated both honours to his fans, referring to them as his source of strength and expressing heartfelt thanks.

The wins drew congratulations from several prominent figures, including Chief Minister Vijay, Om co-star Mammootty, Union Minister of State L Murugan, politician K Annamalai, and MLA Edappadi K Palaniswami.
