Joining the list of Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayaram and Parthiban, two more actors have confirmed their presence in Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan, which is an upcoming two-part magnum opus. Actor Karthi who is gearing up for Kaithi's release come October 25 recently confirmed in an interview that he is very much a part of the film but refused to divulge any further.
Actor Ashwin Kakumanu however was a bit more open and announced his coming on-board via a social media post. Taking to twitter, Kakumanu wrote:
Looking forward to enjoying the process & the journey.I was part of background sound fx for the college students in #Aaythaezhuthu and so it's extra special to play a role in #PonniyinSelvan #longroads pic.twitter.com/cDvuRu9eSw

“Period films are not usually made in Tamil, and by Mani Ratnam no less. So, it was a no-brainer. I have started preparing for the role. I am learning horse-riding and I’m trying to lose weight,” Ashwin was quoted by The Hindu where he also stated the film requires him to work for the next eight months.
Ponniyin Selvan is based on a historical novel written by Kalki Krishnamurthy and will chronicle the story of Arulmozhivarman, who went onto be crowned as Raja Raja Chola I. The film is also expected to star Jayam Ravi, Amala Paul and Keerthy Suresh among others though they haven't officially confirmed their presence in the movie.
